AMD offers a full set of documents for its AMD64 processors at http:// 
developer.amd.com/documentation.jsp .  If you are new to this, you  
would find these helpful:
  "AMD64 Architecture Programmer's Manual Volume 1: Application  
Programming";
Volume 2 addresses writing a kernel for the AMD64;
"AMD64 Architecture Programmer's Manual Volume 3: General-Purpose and  
system Instructions";
Volumes 4 and 5 address using AMD's implementations of SSE and 64-bit  
and Floating point computations, respectively.
