vc8/x64 compilation problem

Yep, just confirmed by looking at the code that we're broken running as a 
x64 binary due to pointers being bigger than unsigned long; I'll get a fix 
committed ASAP for this.  There's no functional difference of course, so 
please run the win32 binary in the meantime as a workaround.
